Should I do a valve adjustment?

So, I'm getting ready to go have the timing belt replaced and they asked if I wanted a valve adjustment. It's an extra $600.00 on top of $900.00 for the timing belt.

I checked the maintenance records I got from the previous owner, and they did get valves adjusted last timing belt change at 100,000 miles.

My question is, is adjusting the valves necessary? What exactly does it improve or help with? The engine seems to be running fine otherwise - no weird noises coming from under the hood.

Good afternoon,

Adjusting the valves is a 100,000 service. The reason for it is to make sure the engine is running at 100% efficiency.

It is involved but if you want longevity, then keeping up on the maintenance is necessary.

If I forego the valve adjustment and do it later, will it be detrimental? I've read online that as long as you don't hear any "ticking" or other noises out of the ordinary, the valves are fine.

Of course, Honda engines always sound different to me than any other engine, they always have a certain "tick" to them. So, I hope I can discern if there is indeed a problem with the valves...

Don't wait too long or not do it since it runs well. It is a basic maintenance item like changing the oil.
