Was driving pulled over car would go into park. Only neutral or drive. Disconnected a pc by the shifter and you can manually move the rod to different gears. Can't get the key out. It's stuck on acc.

Hi,

When you move the shifter rod, does it feel disconnected? Also, does the car have a column or floor shifter?

Now, if it is going into park, you should be able to remove the key. However, if something has come disconnected, it may be preventing the shift interlock from engaging.

Let me know. Also, and don't laugh, are the brake lights working?

Take care,

Joe

Brake lights work (one of the first things I checked) doesn't feel disconnected. I was working on it tonight and there is a metal pc that screws in right in front of the shifter rod. It has a white plastic pc attached to it. It kind of bends down by the teeth. If we take that out you can get the shifter to work but if you screw that back in it gets caught up. I have looked at a bunch of diagrams and I can't find this pc anywhere. It's a floor shifter.

Hi,

By chance, do you see the part in the attached pic? If not, could you take a pic of it and upload it for me to see? It shouldn't be bending, whatever it is.

Let me know.

This is the piece. The picture is upside-down. Flat pc screws in right in front of the shifter rod. Then it bends down and is by the teeth. If it's screwed in can't go to park. Take it out, no problem.

Hi,

Looking at the pics, that appears to be what holds the shifter in a specific location. If it's installed, the shift lock is stopping it from going to park. If that is the case, the shift lock is preventing the key from coming out.

Try this and let me know what happens. With the key on, press and release the brake pedal a few times and see if you hear the shift interlock actuator clicking.

Let me know. Also, let me know if the key stuck in ACC is still happening.

See pic below for actuator location.
