Replaced clutch and assembly, put back in, final thing to do was reinstall shifter both 4wd and gears, place it neutral (linkage) and all I get is 1-5, 5 hardest to shift but no neutral or reverse. Replaced master and slave and installed new pedal, new oil. Shifted great before new clutch but no go due to clutch. It is a W56 transmission with no adjustments.

The most common thing that causes this is the slave is not fully releasing the clutch and it is still dragging slightly so it is hard to shift.

We need to bleed the clutch more just to make sure we have a good pedal. How does the pedal feel? Is firm and feel like you have pressure all through the pedal stroke?

Here is a guide that will help address this:

Lastly when you replaced the master did you bench bled it? If not, I suspect you are just pushing and pulling air.

Let's start with this and go from there. I attached the process on how to bleed the clutch in case you need it. Please see below.

I need to know also where to install the shifter. the linkage has slots and need to position the slots and install shifter but can't find neutral. I assumed both linkage forward forms a box that that was neutral but that is second and fourth which it had the tower to stab into being a W56 and a 5 speed no exterior adjustments there is only one way with many combinations. shouldn't I be able to run through the gears without starting or is it necessary it be running? thanks for the insight on master. but unless I stab the shifter right the rest is mute, I am beginning to believe it is a fubar. LOL.

Maybe I am not following with the shifter issue so can you get some pictures or a quick video on what you are looking at and then we will be able to better direct you?

Also, yes, you should be able to run through the gears with the engine off because there is no load on the clutch. So I suspect the clutch is not releasing at all. Let's get the shifter installed and then retest this because if you are trying to shift this with no shifter then that may be the issue as well. Again, maybe I am not understanding so pictures will help. Thanks
