How do I align the shifter?

I took it out to replace the clutch and when i put it back in the shifter nob is too far forward to allow me to put the trim on and shift.

Thanks for the image. It looks like the shifter is not installed on the correct bolt holes. Here are the instructions in the diagrams below to show you how to install the shifter correctly. Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.
