Shattered lifter roller

Hi,

Was there any damage to the camshaft? As far as the pieces, certainly use a magnet. Since the failed part is in the cylinder head, chances are what you can't remove with a magnet that has made its way into the oil pan.

So, the oil needs to be drained. Check to see if there is evidence of any metal fragments in the oil. Now, and this isn't traditional, what I would likely do is this. After draining the oil, I would replace the drain plug. Then, I would flush the engine with kerosene or diesel fuel by installing approximately five quarts of kerosene, allowing it to sit a few minutes, and then drain it.

After that, with the oil pan open, pour a few quarts more of kerosene through it and allow it to run out. Allow it to fully drain.

At this point, do a traditional oil change with a filter. Start the engine and drive it for a few miles and change the oil and filter one last time.
