Service Engine Soon Light Came On - P0410

Ok I have a 2000 Saturn SL1 and got the service engine soon light. Checked it with a code reader and it said P0410.

and everything seemed ok following that video for my car.

Then I took it to a shop where the mechanic said it could be the "upstream and downstream" o2 sensors. Saying a low response time on an o2 sensor could trip that code.

Could that be the problem? are they an easy fix? location?

I don't really want to parts swap either but if I have to I will! :)

No, I wouldn't try to blame an 0/2 sensor. They are monitored themselves an would set their own codes if there was any issue with their response. The code indicates an issue with the secondary air injection system. The system uses an electric pump that can fail intermittently, along with other control components in the circuit.

Should I just replace the electric pump and see what happens?

Just to add to this one I have seen a bad uptream o2 sensor set a p0410 code without the p0133 code slow response o2 sensor.The way I diagnosed it was by eliminating all of the components of the air injection system.But most of the time its adisconnected vacuum line plugged air injection ports in the head or the combination valve on top of the ac compressor. The combination valve is easy to test to see if it holds vacuum using a hand vacuum pump.When you you do a cold start listening for the air injection pump coming on that will eliminate a few possibilitys for the code.Does the car burn a lot of oil?Also sorry for butting in wrenchtech but had to share my saturn experience on this question. Hope you are doing well haven't talked to you in a while.

I actually changed the upstream o2 sensor and the code still persists. I can continue parts swapping to see... diverter valve and the pump. The worst case is plugged injection ports in the head, which I'm dreading. The cost mostly. I don't think I can do that job myself.

And yes it does burn oil a bit.

Can you hear the injection fan come on when you start the car from a dead cold start?Also you might be able to rent a hand vacuum pump to test the combo valve at auto zone.I don't want you just swap parts I want you to trouble shoot with me to find the problem.Also Cleaning the ports inst that bad its a on car repair.you Just pull the ac compressor back with the bracket.Remove the exhaust manifold then you will see the round ports going into the head.You Can use compressed air to see if there clear also the steel pipe going from the combo valve to the exhaust manifold.They Can get plugged with carbon so I would check that also.
