Parked the car the previous evening, no issues. Next day, no start issue. Engine would not even turn over. Called my trusty auto electric expert "sounds like your security system has malfunctioned be right over". He was right. After determining that the security was not grounded properly he located the engine management computer he was able to ground the security system with the #36 pin. Now the engine would crank over and try to start but acted as if it was running out of fuel. If he gave it more throttle it would run faster until he let off and then it would die. He then checked the fuel fuse or relay (I did not see which) and said it was okay. What would now keep the engine from running?

there probably is something wrong with security system and it's shutting fuel down. try another key if you have one if not have it scanned to see if something on the system is screwed up. a new key will have to be programmed to your car.

I will check that out. The key is very old now since it is the original, and with 275k on the odometer I'm sure that key has been inserted too many times....... thanks

It's been awhile since I've messed with this Park Ave. We did in fact rule out the key as the culprit, and its' transponder ring in the column. We can get the car to start and run, but only for maybe 3 seconds. We thought it was then cutting off the fuel supply or the spark at the coil packs....that wasn't it. It now seems that what is happening is the signal to the fuel injectors is what is being cut out. Visible light in the noid until it just shuts off....light goes out....car dies. Will start back up and always does the same thing... What would cut out the fuel injectors? Where does that signal come from and what controls it? Any suggestions on what we might diagnose next?

security and ignition control the injectors that is why I thought the security was a problem that is why you need a pro scanner to see if it is or not.

I had a friend come by earlier today and check the key and transponder again. He brought some electronic box gizmo with I think three black knobs and some gauge reading panels. Said he used to use it to reprogram keys and security on cars years ago. He retired from Lefty's Auto Electric a few years back. They're the best in Phoenix and he was one of their best techs. He's bypassed pretty much everything in an attempt to isolate the problem. He said the key checked out ok and the security appears to be operating properly but something is shutting down the signal to the fuel injectors and he says he cannot bypass that function as it begins in the ECM. My car is titled as a '97 but the styling (and the windshield I found out is all '98). The schematic he was using today referred to a '98 and a couple of things didn't mesh (number and color of wires in the box up behind the glovebox) so he's coming back tomorrow with a schematic for a '97 to see if the changeover may be at issue here

Okay, one thing that comes to mind is the security light flashing when you are trying to start the car?

Please let us know.
