MAP sensor replacement instructions needed

Hello,

To change your vehicle's Manifold Absolute Pressure [MAP] sensor, you should just unplug the electrical connector going to it and undo the two bolts holding into the intake manifold and pull it out. Installation should be the opposite of removal.

The first drawing doesn't do a very good job of showing the location of the MAP sensor, but you'll find it on the side of the throttle body assembly. The photo shows what it looks like.

Lift the tab on the connector, (blue arrows), to allow it to be pulled off the sensor. Two screws hold the sensor on by the two green arrows. Once those are removed, twist and pull on the sensor. It's held in by a pair of o-rings.

Be aware the screws are usually a pair of T20 Torx heads, and they have thread-lock on the threads, so they're going to come out with some difficulty. Be sure the screwdriver bit fits snugly to prevent rounding out the star-shaped holes in the heads.

I am trying to get the two t20 torx heads out but i aam having some difficulty in doing so. Any suggestions as to what type of tool that i can use? Please respond. Thanks!

T20 Torx bit. Nothing else. A T15 will seem to fit but it's not going to grab as well and it will strip out the holes in the screw heads. I have trouble with a screwdriver because I can't twist it with enough force. Now I use a T20 bit in a 1/4"-drive socket, with a ratchet.

Many years ago I had to get the screws out that were badly mangled. The first thing to try is to use an air-powered cutoff tool to cut slots in the heads, then try a large flat-blade screwdriver. When that doesn't work, grind the heads off completely so you can slide the sensor out, then use a small vise-grip pliers to run the remaining parts of the bolts out. New sensors from the dealer come with two new screws. I don't know if aftermarket sensors come with them. If you need better screws, visit any pull-your-own-parts salvage yard. The same screws are used for throttle position sensors, MAP sensors, and idle speed motors.

You didn't say what kind of problem you're trying to solve.

I'm merely replacing a bad MAP Sensor which was causing my car to back fire and cut off. Incidentally,i took your advice,and was finally able to.get the T20 screws out by grinding the heads off i was then able to slide the sensor out with pliers as you made mentioned. My car is now running great again.Thanks Caradiodoc.
