Seat belts will not retract

Hi Michael,

These are spring loaded so if they are completely extended then you have to replace them. There are some videos on the internet where people are able to get them to retract again but I have never had any luck. I have done a few of these for this reason.

Good morning, thank you for the reply but the images don't show a convertible seat, just a sedan, do you have any that show the process for a convertible? Also, can I use the seat belts out of her old seat that work perfectly?

You are correct. I apologize. I selected convertible from the selection but that is what they gave me. I was able to get this out of the Chrysler site directly rather than Alldata.

Yes. You can use seat belts out of a different vehicle. As long as it is same (or close to the same) model year.

What year was the other one and I can look up the part to see if it is compatible.

It is identical. the seat in her new vehicle was all ripped up so i bought a new seat for the vehicle. Thank you for your help, it will save me a ton of time and money.

How do you get to the top of the seat belt area, this only shows the bottom area?

Sorry, unfortunately they break these instructions up because they are designed for mechanics who have had extensive training so they leave out steps or just tell you to "remove the seat belt" and make it seem like it is just that simple. Here are the instructions on how to remove the seat back cover. Hopefully this gets to you where you can remove the seat belt.

I am still looking for instructions on how to remove the plastic part where the seat belt goes through. i assume that is where i have to get to so i can remove the belt. can someone assist? the instructions do not speak to this issue?

Unfortunately, these are the most detailed instructions that we have. They are directly from the Chrysler manual. I would suggest taking a picture of what you are trying to get and I will see if I can just walk you through it.

It has been many years since I have done on but from what I remember on this the portion that I highlighted in red should pop out and the belt should feed up through the opening.

If you look at the second attachment I circled the end of the belt that should feed through. Clearly the side with the retractor will not fit. I understand that picture is not of the convertible but it is the same end that yours should have. Once the belt is free at both ends you pop this piece off and pull the belt through.
