Car makes a screeching noise when I start it and sit in park, or when I change gears and it goes through neutral for a moment on the way to drive. It was making this noise periodically before my starter died. When I had the starter replaced my car got an evaluation with no other problems ($150) reported. The noise soon became continuous after that and now happens every time. It sounds like you are trying to start your car after it is already running .. a loud shrilling noise. I called the garage that replaced the starter and they want another $150 just to evaluate it again.

check belt and tensioner should be replaced when oil or antifreeze get on them as well as 60,000 mi. Here is a guide to help walk you through the steps of changing the serpentine belt.

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

can you investigate location of sound on your own? could be a pulley/belt noise or even an exhaust noise. you didn't mention what motor/trans you have.

You would need someone to have a lok at the vehicle. It is not possible to diagnose noise problems over the net unles you can be specific and is sure where it is coming from.

I have a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe with a 3.5 engine. I have a slight clicking noise from the rt side of the engine. Is this serious, should I start shopping for a new car? It is a little louder when it first starts. It doesn't seem to change or get louder when accelerating, but is still there. The check engine light is not on.
Recently had an axel repalced, and transmission is good.

Clicking noises can be anything. Someone at your Hyundai service provider should listen to the noise (because I dont hear it from my computer)
