Anytime i drive on a slight incline or reverse on an incline a loud scraping noise comes from right in front of my driver's side rear wheel. If i push on my car when it’s parked it makes the same noise. I’ve looked under my car and i know that the noise isn’t coming from my wheel itself but in the area in front of it from under my car.

Hi,

If it is coming from in front of the wheel, there is a tracking bar or what Ford calls a lateral stiffening bar that connects the rear axle to the body of the vehicle.

There is a chance the bushings are failing. Also, if you live in an area where salt is used in the winter to clear roads, there could be a rust issue.

I attached a couple of pictures below. Have a helper bounce the vehicle while you inspect that bar and bushings. Also, if you hold the bar with your hand, you may feel a vibration in sequence with the noise.

Let me know what you find.

Take care,

Joe

That looks like where the sound was coming from. It is pretty rusted under my car. The previous owner lives in Michigan and I’m in Georgia.

I'm in PA and the salt used on the roads during the winter destroys anything steel. It is so frustrating. Check to make sure there is no frame damage from rust and chances are you will need to replace at a minimum, the bushings.

Let me know what I can do to help.

Hi,

That is hard to answer without knowing what needs to be done. If it is just replacing the part/bushing, I would suspect it to be around $250.00. That is an educated guess. LOL I'm not sure where you are located and what hourly rates are. I hope you understand.

Take care,

Joe
