2006 Saturn Vue noise when brakes appled

Whenever I apply the brakes there is is very high pitched squeal. I softly pump the brakes to slow down and there is no noise however when i step fairly hard on the brakes the noise is very loud. I have had the brakes checked by 2 different places and am told they are ok. I and they are at a loss.

I had this same problem with my 2006 VUE and was told to go to an empty parking lot, put the car in reverse and get going about 20 mph and slam on the breaks. The Saturn dealer said that the breaks are self adjusting and that this should fix the problem. Hope this helps..it helped with mine.
