My wife's 2004 Saturn Vue with the Honda VTEC L66 engine idles rough, and has valve noise at low speed. Once I step down on the accelerator, it smooths out and the noise goes away, but when I let up on the accelerator, the valve noise comes back. (It sounds like a diesel) The performance under acceleration is not affected, and it is as peppy as ever.
We've had it to Saturn, and had the valves adjusted at an independent shop, but the noise is still there. They now claim it needs new motor mounts and it's just a vibration. $1500 dollars later, same noise. I'm worried that's it's going to ruin the engine.
As this is a VTEC, could that have something to do with the noise? As no one seems to be able to fix the problem, is it something I could do?
