Cruise switch lights up when pressed, however cruise will not engage.

A scan tool would enable you to get into the diagnostics to check the cruise control system and identify the fault.
However the most common fault for the cruise control not to work would be the brake switch. Unless you have a scan tool, which is the best option, I would suggest with the basic checks of the brake switch. It could be faulty or out of adjustment.
