2003 Saturn Vue question on transmission

i was just about to buy a 2003 saturn vue with 2.2 4 cyl. , 5 speed manual but then i saw a bunch of bad reviews about that year and the transmission and how some people have had to replace transmission 3 times, is there solid truth to this and if i were to buy a 2004 could this problem be avoided? the problems u have seen have been on the automatic 2.2 engines i have rebuilt tons of them.the manuals havent had problems with them except seen some clutch slave cyclinders leak and need to replace them.engines are good too as long as it was maintaned.hope this helps let me know if u need any more questions answered.
