2002 Saturn Vue coolant leak

my mechanic can't find the coolant leak in all the usual places... any suggestions on where to look next. You can smell the leak but not see the coolant leaking.

if its a 3.0 v6 then have him pump up the cooling system and look under the intake manifold at the oil cooler plate pretty common for them to leak there or the water pump.hope this helps.
