Engine Performance problem
2001 Saturn SL2 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

We bought a 2001 Saturn SL2 with a 1.9L DOHC, automatic transmission. We are having some problems trying to find a engine locally to put back in it. The whole motor that came with the car has a hole the size of your fist in the block. Funny thing is it was still running & drivable (providing you put a gallon of oil in it) when they pulled the motor.

We are wondering if there is any other cars like Volvo's, Geo's, chevys or some kind of different motor that may interchange with this one? It does have turbo in it as well. It is a shame because the tires still have pokeys on it, the interior and exterior is like brand new. We bought it from an towing company thinking it would be a easy fix to just get another used motor (with low miles) to discover they are hard to find here!

Any help would be greatly appericated.

My husband calls them a glorified Vega. Your right we havent found anything close to interchanging. I know when my daughter blew up her 626 we were able to get a probe engine to interchange without a problem. We was kinda hoping the same for this Saturn.

Yeah fords and mazadas can interchange some of them. The S model like yours was made to be different from all other cars even the transmission is only found in that car. There slogen back in the day was different kind of car different kind of company.I have worked for Saturn for over 16yrs and that is my personal favorite model they ever made.I have owned many different years of those models and now have a 1999 Sl2 alot of my family own different years of those models. It's a real basic car easy and cheap to fix and reliable.
