1997 Saturn SL2 hesitating

car starts okay once its at engine tempature when you push the gas pedal if you do it gentally some time it will cut out.so you av to kind of pump the gas pedal quickly toget going,it will really show when you want to reverse up slight incline it will cut out.Around town it will hestitate from time to time.On the hwy it will correct it self time to time.
But basically it turns over first time and idle speed is okay when standing stationary.
