1994 Saturn SL2 altinator

Sounds like your alternator is bad those early Saturn alternator's didn't last that long.Just have it tested when you take it out if you have it tested And it test's good then I'll help you trace the wire's to it.If it test's bad then make sure you also test the fuseable link going to the back of it.All you need to test that is a ohm's meter take it off and check for 2 ohm's or less from one end to the other end.Most likely you have a bad alternator I have seen very few wire issue's causing the alternator to not charge.Let me know what you find.

the alternator is brand new i was thinking it might be the regulator or is there a fuse running from the battery to the alternator?

Didn't know you change the alternator.Let's start with this there is a fuseable link that run's from the starter to back of the alternator.With your battery hooked up and your engine not running.Take your volt meter ground the negative side of the meter take your postive side and see if there is battery voltage to that post on the alternator.Let me know what you find.

i did not check the voltage but i did ohm out the wire and there was no fuse, i have continuity all the way back from the alternator to the battery. what else could be the problem

I posted a alternator wire diagram for you.You could have gotten a bad new alternator did you have them test it before you bought it?I had them do that before and the clerk got mad at me for asking to test it.After the third alternator tested bad in a row i was laughing pretty hard at him the last one number four tested good.What i want you to do is get your volt meter out key on engine off check your ign3 and ign1 fuse's in your under hood fuse box if there good then go down to your alternator and check that post on the back of the alternator for battery voltage.Then unplug the connector on the side of the alternator at the terminal end check the brown and white wire for battery voltage.If all that check's out then take out your alternator and have it tested where you bought it.Let me know what you find.
