I have a 97 Saturn SL1 with a manual transmission. I would like to know if it is possible to pull the engine from the top without removing the Transaxle from the vehicle.

It is possible to take the engine out the top without the transmission but if you do it will be really hard when you put the engine back in to line up the clutch.I tried it once like that never do that again. The best way is to take the engine and transmission out all bolted together. What you do is when you hook up the engine hoist make sure you grab the chain off more towards the engine that will cause the transmission to swing down when you start raising the engine and transmission out of the car.Make sure you take out the radiator cooling fan assembley or you will Break it when you remove the engine and transmission. Also remove hood it will give you so much more room.
