On occassions I have problems with my car shaking while driving at higher speeds. When this happens, my car seems to lose power and struggles to go above 60 mph. The brake pedal also becomes stiff. Once I pull off the highway, it drives completely normal at speeds around 40-50 mph. At times, I can also smell a burning odor.
We had this happen one time within the first 15 minutes of a longer trip. We pulled off the road, restarted the car, were able to continue on with the rest of our 2 1/2 hour trip with no incidents.
It also seems that everytime this has happened has been when I haven't allowed my car to "warm-up" for a few minutes before driving. Outside temperature, however, seems to not be an influence. Any ideas?
