2001 Saturn SC2 Will the computer reset when I replace the

Will the computer in my 2001 Saturn SC2 need to be reprogrammed if I remove and replace the battery myself? If so, is there a way I can prevent that? I've heard about a 9 volt device that gets plugged into the cigarette lighter socket.
