Engine Cooling problem
1998 Saturn SC2 4 cyl Automatic 171128 miles

Hello, I have a 1998 Saturn SC2.. the car will over heat when it sits for any length of time and now it's going through coolant like there's no tomorrow. I just flushed the radiator and filled up the coolant yesterday afternoon and already today (a little less than 20 hours later) the light for "low coolant" is coming back on. I think I've driven a total of 60 miles today. I live in NC so I do realize it's hotter here than in most states at this time of the year but the previous owner of this car had it for 10 years and lived in NC with the car the whole time. This problem just started about 2 or 3 weeks ago and I've had the car since December of 2009. Please help!

Your going to have to pressure test the cooling system to see if there are any external leaks but these engines are notorious for bad head gaskets and cracked heads.

There aren't any leaks because my drive way is clean. Other than taking it to a mechanic, are there any ways for me to check the head myself? (I'm not car savvy)

No, you don't know it has no leaks. It can disappear long before it hit the ground. It needs to be pressure tested as I already stated.
