My son called me today and told me he was driving the car and it just died. I went to take a look and he could not get it to turn over again. Since he had been having issues with the battery holding a charge, we just replaced it and it started right up, but is running very rough and stalling. It sounds as if it is missing and I am getting a very loud rapping noise in the upper head. It sounds as if it is a lifter or maybe a valve issue. I check the engine code and came up with P0300 which I think relates to a misfire in the engine.

Any ideas since this seems to be out of the blue.

Oh, we did an oil change about a 1 1/2 months ago, new filter/drained engine and replace with fresh oil. Oil levels look fine.

If you have any suggestions, your help would be appreciated.

Yes p0300 is a misfire code. I would start with a compression test sould be around 120 to 140 psi. and all cylinders should be close in pressures.
