Hello, I have recently been doing quite a bit of work maintaining my 96 Saturn SL2 and am stumped on what is going on with my brakes. When stopping they seem to shake the steering wheel a bit, and make almost a thump thump sound. I am not sure what to do at this point to fix the problem.

Hey lbc7dust,

Has the car been sitting for a bit? Sometimes rust will form on the brake rotors and drums. This will cause a pulsation in the brakes.

Best to have them checked along with the steering (tie rods and steering rack) components and the suspension (ball joint, strut wheel bearings, and control arm bushings) components.

Good luck and let us know. :)

It did sit for about 2 years, but has been driven for the last 3 years, and this problem has only come up in the last few months. Also, the brakes have been checked and replaced as needed since sitting.

Hey lbc7dust,

You need to take a close look at the steering components next. Check the steering rack, tie rods, ball joints, upper control arm bushings and the wheel bearings. I am leaning towards a bad wheel bearing but best to check all for safety's sake.

Good hunting and let us know. :)
