I have a 97 SL1 1.9L SOHC 115,000 miles, that I just replaced the head due to a crack. Head is reman from saturn. New head and manifold gaskets installed. I now have terrible acceleration. Car WILL NOT go over 3800 RPM. The transmission shifting is also terrible. Upon accel if I don't let off the gas, it will not shift to higher gear. All hoses , wires appear to be connected and unbroken. I had the battery disconnected for 2 wks before fixing the car. Is there any relearning curve for computer to get back to correct shifting patterns?

When I first started it, it ran rough and returned a p300 code. Now runs smoothly until it reaches 3700rpm.

Haven't had a chance to get back. One thing I would definitly take a look at is the coolant temp sensor for any cracks and spray a little carb cleaner around the intake and injectors to be sure of no vaccuum leaks.

What was the reason for the head replacement. Overheat?

Thanks for all the suggestions. I took the timing cover back off and saw that I had put the chain/gear back on 1 or 2 teeth off. Corrected this, put it back together, and it runs great now. Again thanks for your replies. I was wondering if the cam alignment might be the cause, and multi responses suggesting this prodded me to recheck. THANKS

Small world...There is so much sickness in NF...how can it be so screwed up? While this is a car forum...my heart sinks knowing customers and the health issues of our area. So sorry to hear about the pain.....that is really upsetting.

On a good note, the Satty runs good huh?....Take care of the Honey...and stop back in here anytime.
