2002 Saturn LS2 4-cyl 2.2L rpms

Try spraying with WD-40 the rubber seals on the inside of the front backing plates where the axles go through to see if noise goes away...

Does it happen both while turning and driving straight or only one? Do you have stock size tires/rims?

Yes everything is stock. When the noise occurs it is driving straight and turning and doesn't do it all the time. When I take it to the shop the noise will not happen and the mechanic stands there scratching his head and his you know what.

Try doing what Jerry said, it could be your wheel bearings going out. Do you have 4x4 or is it only 2x4?

Thanks I tried what Jerry aid and the noise is still there. The mechanic look at the wheels and assured me that the bearing were alright. And yes it is a 4x4.

I've had the same issue with my 99 Ranger XLT 4x4, as improbable as it seems i sprayed my sealed sway bar/rack and pinion grease packs with WD-40 and the problem subsided for awhile. Pardon if I did not use the proper terminology on the front end assembly.

is it possible that the brake calipers are not working properly? there is an excessive amount of brake dust onthe wheel making the noise

Not sure exactly what you're asking.
Are you asking if the calipers are over using the brakes which is creating an excess of brake dust that is some how causing your pinion to make noise?

Or are you asking if the brake dust alone is the issue?

If you think your calipers are not working properly, I'm pretty sure you'd notice your brakes grabbing when applied.
It is plausible that the brake dust could have soemthign to do with it though, you said you went through high water and that is when the issue arose.

I JUST remembered what I did, I had gone through high water myself and that is when the issue started for me too. I sprayed everything systematically until I sprayed my shock absorber piston rod. That stopped the noise.

I have the sport package where my shocks are actually upside down. Try greasing or spraying that piston rod with WD-40 and see if that stops the noise.
If it doesn't, you could always clean out the brake resevoir, grease your break pads, and check your fittings.
