Hello Nicole,
I doubt the accident is having any impact. You need to make sure the tensioner is maintaining tension on the belt and that the belt is not slipping, contaminated or badly cracked. If you are losing coolant and it is getting onto the belt, you need to find that leak. Regardless, if it is leaking you need to find the leak, but I would start looking around the belt area for any tell-tale signs.

I have an SL1 in my saturn and while I realize your engine may or may not be different, mine takes that phosphate free antifreeze and I noticed you said you used 50/50. Does your engine not take the phosphate free also?

I gotta start reading closer.
IF coolant is getting on the belt and making it slip, the alternater will not be charging the system as it is spinning. The alternater may just not be charging anyhow.

The blinking coolant level may or may not be tied to the alternater, more often it is a bad level sensor.

The SL1 model has a singleovehead cam
The SL2 has a Dual OHC.
Although the same displacement, different motors.
I run traditional green coolant in them.
