Engine Performance problem

Hey guys, appreciate the help. Well my girls saturn recently was vandilized. It had a potato wedged in the exhaust, which we took out. Then we found sugar in the tank, which i cleaned out well the filler tube anyways. It looked like the suger stopped at the bottom of the filler tube where the stopper is located. But after this vandilization the car started sputtering once in gear and when gas pedal is pressed down. I replaced the spark plugs and wires which it needed badly and the fuel filter with no luck. The car runs fine when idleing, no problems at all its just when put in gear starts sputtering and almost dies, but doesnt. Please help me with this problem, thx guys.
