We are considering buying a Saturn SL 2. It has a new battery, alternator, the starter and fuel pump are not the problem. We changed the coil pack and the car still wont FIRE UP. We also changed the spark plugs. There was also oil in the old spark plugs. It had been sitting for a year without being turned on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 94 SL2 w/118k that also at one point had oil in the spark plugs (puddled in there). It did still run though. It was actually an easy fix: The valve cover gasket which costs about $15 at Advance Auto and is a kind of silicone in a tube. Its easy to fix yourself too. You just unscrew the top star screws on the valve cover and scrape off the old gasket.

Hope that helps!

I have the same problem too, my friend gave me his car and it's a saturn 99 sw and it has 14k miles, the car has not been use for a long time and the owner said the cluth is killed and needs to be replaced, the car won't start and keeps on chugging, the battery might need charging and other stuff but still won't work, haven't changed the spark plugs yet, does the fuel pump count too so it won't work?? what do you think?

All you have to do is count the flashes

example flash puase flash flash is code 12
and it will repeat 3 times for each code and the info for the code is free it will tell what codes are stored in the computer

This is a gray basic suggestion, but...
You need to determine what is the lacking leg of ignition. That is Lack of fuel, spark or compression or combination of them. do you know what you have or don't have?
