I took my car in to get a Check Engine Soon like looked at. There was a sensor that was bad. I was told it would take 45 minutes. During the repair, the mechanic touched a wire and blew the ECM. Now the mechanic says that the fuel pump failed (not pumping) on the rack and that it's not their fault. He said it could have gone out anywhere and has nothing to do with the ECM. Am I getting taken for a ride? Could the blown ECM cause the fuel pump to malfunction? It's a $650 repair that was not broken when I brought it in.

Curious as to the original codes in the computer.

It is really hard to say what "really" happened as they may not even know. SOunds like they made an assumption of the pcm and were wrong. I wonder if the original code had any bearing on a weak fuel pump.
