Windshield wipers do not work

Four cylinder two wheel drive automatic 160,000 miles

Hello, my windshield wipers will not work. But the windshield fluid will work, plus when it is supposed to be off, you can hear a sound that sounds like the windshield wipers when they are working, but nothing happens. Is their a short, or should I replace the motor or the relay?

The noise is the motor, so do not replace it. Between the wiper arms and motor is a transmission, that transmits power from the motor to the arms. Also called linkage. It sounds like it has become disconnected.

The cowl has to come off to access the wiper through. You can then see where it came apart. However, first I would call Saturn and ask if the transmission is all one unit in which case, get it.
