2001 Saturn L200 Speed Sensor

i just got my transmission replaced,picked the car up today and the service light is on. the car does shift hard into first and second. i took it to auto zone to get it tested and was told that the speed sensor was bad. i just need to know where its located and if the sensor will cause this to happen if its going bad. my speedometer works fine also. just shifts hard and seems like its off almost like its slipping. is this something i can replace myself? the part only cost $13.00.[/quote:031b99956f]
if u just got the transmission repalced u should take it back to where u got it replaced.they may have left the sensor unplugged even the sensor is right where the passenger axel comes out of the transmission.also yes it could cause those problems u have as well.let me know what u find.

thanks!! i checked the location and it looks like its plugged in. i looked at the old transmission and found the part im having overnighted which is the transmission speed sensor. here is the code i got from the computer test at auto zone. P0717 is there any way to find out what that code actually means online somewhere?

that is for ur input speed sensor not for ur output speed sensor thats why ur spedo still works.that speed sensor is deep in ur trans under ur side cover and under ur valvebody.what was ur old trans doing?this could become a big repair i repaired one for this code and ended up replacing the harness inside the trans and the sensor itself.if u paid to have a trans replaced there must be some kind of warranty on it.was it a rebuilt one?

no it was one that was pulled out of another car.cost me $525.00. from an auto salvage yard. it did have 30 day warranty but it took me more than 30 days to get the money up to have put in.the old transmissions reverse locked up in it.. the reverse would not work what so ever. even when the car was in Neutral you could not push it backwards but you could drive it forward just fine. i drove it like that for almost 1 1/2 yrs. i figured that the sensor you told me about was the wrong one because the one i had ordered looked different. I went ahead and replace the one i found with the one off the old transmission anyways because the one that was on it was loose and looked bad anyways. the car still shifts hard into drive 1st and 2nd but not as bad. i went and it hooked back up to the machine and got these codes P1860 and P0717 which now i know from what you've told me what it means. whats the other one? i know it has something to do with the Manufacturer Control Transmission. what ever that is!!
