Location of and how to replace of the purge solenoid?

The canister purge solenoid is located on the engine here are diagrams to show you how to do the job please check the tube from the intake to the valve becasue they can leak causing the same code. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

I ordered the part from www.rockauto.com, search for ACDELCO Part # 2142230.

It's a little difficult to get to, mainly because of bundles of cables and you need to have a 13mm socket and ratchet to get it loose.

Steps:
Remove the oil cap so you can pull the cover off the engine. It just snaps into place. I put the oil cap back on to keep stuff from getting in there.

Pull out the plugs on the old solenoid. The one towards the front just pulls loose. The top back one has a sliding white thing that you move and then pull loose. The bottom back one has a red clip under it that you pull down a little while pulling it out.

There is a bunch of cables snapped into a holder on the bracket for the solenoid that attach with a single part in the middle. Pull this gently but firmly until it releases and you can move them out of the way. This is critical to making it easier to get the bracket loose.

The bolt is down under the bracket. Use the 13mm socket to turn the bolt towards the front of the car. It's about an inch long so it takes a bit. Fortunately there is a large metal shelf (exhaust manifold?) right under to catch the bolt when you drop it. lol

Take a screwdriver and under the solenoid is a center bit of metal that you want to gently pry away just slightly so the solenoid slides loose.

Put the new one on and push the metal back up so the solenoid is locked in place.

Then put everything back where it was. The whole thing should take an inexperienced person (like me) about 30 minutes or so.

Glad to hear you have it all figured out most of the time when they go bad they get stuck open.When you take it off see if you can blow thru it that's what happened with all the ones i replaced.

I think the surest sign was that it didn't stall after filling up the tank.

Next problem is a clicking which I suspect is an injector. Lol At least I'm saving money.

It is on the left side of the engine (from the drivers seat). Open the hood and look in line with the center coil cover and at the oil filler. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.
