1999 Saturn Ion car shuts off

I have changed the plugs and wires, got a new battery, and changed the EGR solenoid[/quote:343d9a7b2f]do u mean u changed the egr valve?what ur going to have to do is find out what ur losing when the car dies my guess is spark.when it dies and isnt starting take two wires off the coil towers that are side by side and have someone crank it while u watch for spark.let me know what u find.

I was told by auto zone that the car I have is not an Ion he said they didnt make them in 1999, it says twin cam on the car if that helps, I havent tired what u suggested yet but a friend of my is letting me us a meter that u plug in under the dash so I will be trying that this week, but I wanted to ask if u think it could possibly be the fuel filter

ions came out in 2003 they replaced ur model car I wasn't talking about a code scanner when I said meter I was talking about a volt ohm meter.unless the code scanner u borrowed reads engine rpm on ur car which most don't.as far as the fuel filter goes when they clog up the usually don't shut the car off for 5 mins and let it start up again.but I see u have 172,000 miles on ur car if u haven't changed it wouldn't be a bad thing to change.u change them every 100,000 miles.the cheapest place for a fuel filter is autozone there expensive other places I got mine there for my 99 sl2 Saturn for 30.check for spark like I told u when it doesn't start let me know what u find.
