1998 Saab 9-5 Fully synthetic completely necessary on a car

hi - i have a saab 9-5 1998 with 230,000km i put the recommended fully synthetic oil in last time - it has a small oil leak and blows a little blue, i think because the oil is too thin and the engine isnt brilliant... plus the fully synthetic is so damn expensive... can i use an alternative thicker and cheaper, if so what type? I live in Sydney Australia.

the best oil for a saab is what u put in last time full syn oil,if u use a thicker oil u r going to have sludge issue then u r going to loose the engine totally .there is a saying the cheapest always works out the dearest .remember that .good luck
