1999 Saab 9-3 repair Question ABS

Tech II identified problem as right rear sensor. They wanted to replace entire system for about $3600. NOT I replaced hub (integrated abs sensor) with little trouble. However, on reassembly, I found my problem that SAAB dealer did not. Wire at connector was frayed. Can I replace the connector? Wires are too short to re-connect to existing weatherrpoof plug. Cannot find a replacement plug. Dealer wants $600 for ABS wiring and another $500 to do work. Help!

Hello - First I have about 6 different 9-3s. 9-3 Convertible, Coupe, SE Convertible, SE Sedan, Sedan and Viggen Coupe. With that I have attached a wiring diagram. I show that this part, if we are talking about the same thing, I believe has a connector on both ends and can be ordered and replaced. It connects to the RR sensor, then has another connector farther up and changes wire color. Now if you can not find the end of the connector or the Saab dealer can not help. My suggestion is to talk to an automotive electrical shop. You may have to remove the wheel for them there in the parking lot. But they can take a pin extractor and resplice the wire and repin the connector. That would be my suggestion if the dealer can not sell just that length of connector. I hope that makes sense on what I am saying. If not, get back with me.

You are prettty much on the money. SAAB dealer said that ABS wiring is all 1 unit and the smaller section (which is supposed to connect under the back seat) is not sold as a part. I extracted the 2 pins (very small) and the new problem is the splicing cannot happen since the wires are 1)too short to splice and 2) are pinched tightly into the pin. Looks like a new connector or a replacement pin (maybe radio shack?). I was hoping to source a new connector. Found many, but sizing is a problem.

Hello –

I am sure that an automotive electrical shop could build you a spliced in wiring harness with connectors on both ends. Unless you have the correct pin extractor etc, it will be hard to fine the pins to fit into your existing plug.
