Bad PCM?

The 4wd warning light comes on. The car drives fine when this happens, except for rpm staying at zero. It will return to normal once I stop and turn the car off and on. Had Kia Dealer check out with their computer diagnosing equipment and they can't find anything wrong. Bought the car used three weeks ago. This has happened just three times.

Hello,

This is telling me you may have a bad PCM because of the reset. also the dealers computer would not see it being bad because it is good at the time. (there is not history code for a bad PCM) Here are the instructions for the replacement in the diagrams below. You will need a rebuilt unit which you can find by searching you will need your VIN number so they can program the PCM before installation. Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what happens.

Do you think it's worth restarting computer by unplugging battery and removing fuse? Also, Kia dealership said there might be a fault in the crank position sensor. Is this related to PCM? Just want to research before I spend money to repair.

Yes you can try that to see what happens. It could be the crankshaft sensor that is causing it here is the location. Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what happens.

Decided to have the crankshaft sensor repaired. I'm not a mechanic but found someone to do it for $250.00. They are 90% sure that's what's wrong.
