Warmed car up this morning, had to shut it off for a second. Started it back up and it was like it only running on half the cylinders.shut it off, tried again, but then revved it bout half to floor. RPM's shot up to 4. Gave it up until tonight, went out and tried it, it ran fine. Shut it off after about 2 minutes, tried again and it ran like crap. It didn't have time to warm up.also not sure what it is but finally discovered the burning smell and smoke source under the hood. Oil is leaking from under the block against the firewall. Not enough to use a lot. Have added 3/4 quart since oil change in July. Reading here, could be oil pressure sending unit. He has yet to take cover off and investigate.

Today he went out and the breather was totally off. Plus I now have a squirrel renting my car. He blew out the acorns, put breather back on so far so good. Except the oil leak I found have only added half quart since July or so. This was about 3 weeks ago, it was already down a half. That squirrel must be thirsty. Thank you and if it keeps doing it I will ask him to try the idle sensor.

Hello again,

That is what I was going to suggest next, to check to see if a squirrel had stored acorns in the air cleaner. LOL.

Thanks,
Alex

I have cayenne pepper down below where I found pine cones, and yes I did get a bit of it in my eye, LOL it hurt. Plus I have ammonia bags all around the car. I did however, since I am an animal lover, go buy more acorns and stored them in the husbands motor. Don't want that poor thing to freeze.

Engine Performance problem
2001 Chrysler Sebring Automatic 130000 miles

When I leave for work in the mornings, my car runs just fine. As I drive around throughout the day, the car progressively runs rough. When I pull up to a stop light, sometimes the car idals down and sometimes shuts off. I have to restart it more and more the more i drive it during the day. When I come to a stop light and put the car in nutral, it usually stays running but the engin randumly reves up and then idals down....Any Idea what is causing this?

Engine running rough or misfiring can be cause by the following-inspect and test all the following below:
1.Defective spark plug.
2.Inadequate spark/coil,defective spark plug wire.
3.Lack of compression
4.False air leakage.
5.Faulty fuel injectors.
6.Insufficient fuel pressure.
7.Contaminated fuel.
8.EGR valve that is leaking.
9.Oxygen sensors.
10.Throttle position sensor.

Coming home from work today, my 2001 Sebring started making a kind of humming sound when idling down while coming to a stop. A couple of times while stopped at a stop light, it began to idle very rough, so I would have to put it in neutral and step on the gas. Could this be a fuel pump going? Would like to know before it gets worse, as I need my car to get to work....

it could be, but check all fluids first of all and make sure everything is at a level that it should be, if you have a check engine light you should have it scanned, this service is usually free, autozone does it. your noise can be a pulley gone bad, a/c bearings could be going bad. but I cannot tell because I cannot see it. so yo may need it looked at, but as far as a check engine light, if it is on, then have it scanned and bring the codes back to me for further diagnosis
