Hey guys,

I have a friend who needs work on this Jeep and I said i would help. I pulled the codes and attached them in the photos. It runs and idles rough and doesn’t have any power. When pressing on the accelerator, even pressing it all the way to the floor, the RPM’s won’t go over 2,000. When driving, there is absolutely no acceleration, power or quick throttle response.
I did notice the spark plugs probably need replaced. Just curious what you think the issue is and where I should start?
Thank you very much for your help. You guys are amazing!

Thank you! and thanks for the detailed question, so I would start with a compression test because it looks like the timing chain has jumped time. The compression test with tell us what is going on. Also, at idle can you hear the engine making a slight rattle noise this would be a clue as well.

Please go over this guide and get back to us. Also, if you can shoot a quick video of the engine cranking over I can tell if it sounds okay are not, you can upload it in your response. Ken

Hey Ken, these are the results that I found for the compression test. Also, I noticed when pulling the spark plug on cylinder number six that it was wet.

Nice work, the engine seems okay, but the one spark plug is not good, really worn out. The compression is good. Install new spark plugs, then let try clearing the codes and without starting the engine run the codes to see which ones come up. You may have a clogged cat or a bad fuel pump. Lets go over this guide as well.

Thanks for the video and images, they helped. Please let us know what happens.

Hey Ken, I replaced all the spark plugs and the plug wires as well. I thought for sure this thing was gonna fire right up and run strong. Boy was I mistaken. During the spark plug replacement, I removed the negative battery terminal and left it off overnight. The next day I turned the ignition on, cleared the codes, and then tried to start the Jeep. It would not start. I tried it a few times, and then I pulled the codes and it looks like the throttlebody is not working properly. I’m wondering why the Jeep would at least start and run before I change the spark plugs and wires. I didn’t mess with anything else except for unhooking the battery. And then all of a sudden the throttle body is not working? I’m assuming with the high mileage that the motor inside the throttlebody to turn the plate just quit working and there is no fix for that except for just replacing the entire throttle body?

Yep, the throttle body is bad, so you will need a replacement, you might want to try ebay I have had good luck with parts from there. Also, it the air intake sensor plugged in, if so you need another sensor for that as well.

Hey Ken, I was able to get the jeep started. Turns out that I forgot to put the fuse back in for the fuel pump lol. I also got a new IAT sensor, and I pulled a good throttle body from the junkyard. The jeep is running better than when I first got it, but it is still idling roughly, and I am not sure if you can tell from the video but the engine is pretty shaky. I took it for a test drive, and there’s still seems to be no power When accelerating . I pulled the codes and I am still receiving one about the throttlebody and the IAT sensor, so I am assuming there is something going on with the wiring? I am not very good at diagnosing electrical issues at all or how to test them. Can you help me troubleshoot thank you very much.

Yep, it looks like it has a dead cylinder, also, I don't think it is a wiring problem because the codes does not say it is a circuit problem. Lets go over this video to help do a compression test to see if the engine is hurt or not.

Hey Ken, I know that you have a lot going on and probably forgot that I already did a compression test if you scroll up, you will see the results that I posted. You said that the engine is good.

I guess I’m a little confused as to why you don’t think there is a circuit problem, especially with the IAT sensor. Because I bought a brand new one, and it still did not fix the issue. What else could it be?

…in the codes that I sent in the photos, it does say that the circuit is low on the IAT sensor.

lol, sorry about that. Yep I see the IAT is at 330 so that is not correct, Lets test the wiring to take that off the table, if the wiring is good the PCM is bad, here is a guide to help.
