My car recently started giving me problems, it idles roughly then the check engine light came on. I took it to the mechanic he replaced the spark plugs and wires as well as the 02 sensor, however the car is idling rough and has began to cut off randomly. I went and had the battery and alternator/starter checked and it was fine. I recently cleaned the throttle body as well. Still idles roughly. I read online about an idle air control valve, could this be the problem or is there something else going on?

Hello, I'm Danny.

Yes, a faulty idle air control valve cause cause an erratic or poor idle quality.Do you remember the check engine codes?First thing I suggest is to have the code(s) checked. If you don't have access to a code reader/scanner your local auto parts stores have a tool loaner program and can rent you one.You will need an OBD1 reader. Here is a tutorial showing what is involved.I'm also including a tutorial showing how to replace an idle air control valve.

Once you have the codes read please get back to us with the code numbers and we will be happy to properly diagnose.Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.

P0300 - Random misfire is commonly caused by a vacuum leak, or low fuel pressure. It is random and covers more than one cylinder. I would run a fuel pressure test first. https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-fuel-system-pressure-and-regulator
You can usually "rent" the pressure test gauge at a parts store.
