Rough idle, difficult or no start, codes 0171 and 0174

Car sat for 2 years. Started and ran fine initially. Threw a 0171/0174 code. Then started but shut off on acceleration and became hard to start. Acts like there's no gas. Aftermarket fuel pump installed about 4 years ago. Pump whirs about 1 second when ignition is turned on. Placed pressure gauge on fuel rail that showed zero pressure (fittings are wet but no pressure when removed). Installed gauge and fittings twice and repeated with no pressure. Is this a fuel pump? What else should I check? Also has brand new battery and 1/2 tank of gas.

Also replaced fuel filter with pump about 4 years ago. Removed filter and could blow freely through both ends. Reinstalled it.

Most likely this is the fuel pump. Basically if you have no pressure at the rail then either the pump is not creating pressure or there is a restriction not allowing the pressure to get to the rail.

My bet is the pump has failed. If it were me, I would replace the pump.

Agreed and replaced pump. Think the pump itself may have been ok but the intank hose looked very bad. May have just been recirculating most gas into tank. With new pump it fired right up; no hesitation on acceleration; didn't shut off after several minutes. Thanks. Now on to A/C!
