The light on my PRNDL Rotary gear shifter won’t turn off and it’s draining the battery.

The gear shift module sounds like it is out, but to be sure we should scan the CAN. You can get a CAN scanner (Controller Area Network) which will work on most cars from Amazon.

Here is a video to show you how:

The gear shift module is power directly from the fuse fFYI, here is how to change the gear shift module out in case you need it which should fix the problem. I must tell you there is a TRCM that can go out which might keep the gear shift module light on as well. This is why the CAN scan will help us. I have included both the gear shift module and the TRCM in case a code is stored for it. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.

Thanks for your reply. I'm having trouble finding what fuse is for the rotary gear shifter. If there is a fuse just for the light, I'd be good with just taking it out. Also, how do I know what code is for what? It's going to the shop tomorrow. I have no problem changing out the rotary shifter, but the TRCM might be out of my pay grade.

Yep, there is only one fuse for the gear shift module, so the light is part of the module. If you pull the fuse the transmission probably not work. I am 80% sure it will be the gear shift module that will fix the problem. Please let me know what they say.

Thanks again! I took it to my mechanic and he said he cleared a bunch of faults (CAN) and the 2 that come back are P0562-00 System low voltage-Not current DTC and P0814-00 Transmission range display circut-Not current DTC. He said it has to go to the dealer to find out what's going on or I could "take a shot" and replace the rotary shifter. He said if it's the transmission range control module trcm the dealer would have to program it. Let me know what you think.

It is up to you, I would try the gear shift module if it is not too expensive.

I can get one for around $200. But since you included instructions on how to change the transmission range control module trcm it conflicts with what my mechanic says. Could you clarify if it can be done with/without dealer? The dealer wants $249 just to hook the car to the diagnostic machine!

The TRMS needs programming, the gear shift module does not.

I know this. I was hoping you knew if it had to be programmed at the dealer. You sent instructions on how to change it out. No big deal just confused. Thanks.
