Hello, I am Danny.
To be honest that would require a lot of work! You would have to remove the oil pan to have access to check the rod bearings. If there is access to remove the oil pan without having to remove the engine from the car, you might have to remove a bunch of accessories to even remove the oil pan. May I ask why you are looking in to this? Has someone/mechanic suggested you have a connecting rod knock? Hope this helps and feel free to ask any questions if needed. Thanks for using 2CarPros.

The oil pump went out and I pulled the engine out. When I wiggled the rods they seem loose to me.

Hello again.
If you have access to a feeler gauge the side play specifications are .007-.017. There should be a little play side-to-side but not too excessive to seem like a "rod knock" (up and down ). Hope this helps and ask any questions if needed. Thanks for using 2CarPros.
