In reverse when trying to accelerate car shakes

From the park position I shift into reverse the second I touch the gas it feels like entire car shakes violently. very loud rumbling sound from under the hood.
To me it feels like the motor is moving enough to pull the trans-axle out of the transmission.
Loud violent scary noise!
I'm starting with the motor mounts.
Is there something that I'm missing?
I'm going to video just what it does. Because I've found no video online that shows the same problem. Help if you can.

Hey mrcram1967,

Sounds like motor mounts are a great place to start.

Get someone to sit in the vehicle and shift from Park to Reverse.

You should be able to see the engine move on the mounts, watch and see which mount moves excessively.

Also please do post the video it will be helpful to identify the issue and give a good example of the fault.

You were 100% correct. I actually have three out of the four motor mounts are completely gone, as you can seeing my pictures. The new transmission mount beside the bad one. The one we pulled out is in two pieces. The same with the front motor mount, and the passenger side mount has no rubber left in it at all. My motor was actually rubbing on the steel engine cradle. When i put it in reverse the motor rolled up so far that the passenger side trans-axle pulled out of the transmission and just bouncing around. Hence the very loud rapping noise, and severe vibrations. Also the car would not move because only 1 trans-axle was connected to the transmission. So replacing the three bad motor mounts brought the engine up about four inches, trans-axle popped back into place which solved all my problems. Car drives like a champ now. Thanks very much for your assistance in what I thought was going to be a $5,000.00 transmission job. It ended up costing me $70.00 for all four mounts, three hours laying up under my $500.00 car. Turns out I got the better deal after all. sincerely, 1HappyMan.

Really appreciate you for posting the update and the picture.

That is one of the worse motor mounts i have seen.

Motor mounts are often overlooked. They take a lot of abuse from years of force from the engine trying to push/pull them apart.

You had the right idea to start with, i'm glad i could help if only to confirm what you were thinking. Glad you got her all fixed up.
