Programming is not something you can do without having the correct programming tool, access to the factory programming data and then a good scan tool to be sure the programming is correct.

What was the initial reason for replacing the PCM? Crank and no start? If so what testing was done prior to the PCM swap?

Thanks Steve

The reason for my question is that my son's Ford Laser "HOLD" light flashes and I am not successful after trying few steps like flushing the transmission fluid and replacing the speed sensors as per the repair manual.to fix this problem. The next step is checking the PCM but I do not have the correct equipment. So I wanted to replace the PCM with a junk yard one. If that doesn't fix the problem I understand that I will need to repair or replace the transmission.

The flashing light is telling you the trans has a code set. You can get the code(s) read and see if it gives you a hint. The problem with that trans isn't usually in the PCM. It's usually internal.

Thanks again Steve
The Ford dealer confirmed that the problem is internal. I am going to replace the trans-axle with low km secondhand one. Any advice?

Flush out everything very well. Add a larger trans cooler. If there is any reason to suspect that metal might have made it into the factory cooler, replace it.
Other than that I hope the "new" trans makes it a good vehicle again.

Good luck and if you have any other questions come on back and ask, Tell others about us. We're here to help.
