Replacing Head Gasket due to coolant in the engine cylinder?

As far as the cost, certainly, a head gasket would be less expensive. However, I would recommend having the head inspected for any distortion or warping. If it is straight, then you should be fine for a bit of time.

Is this the first time there was an issue? Was the engine overheated?

Hi Joe,

First indication was engine light turned on September 1, 2023, then a week later overheat light showed up for about 30 seconds. By happenstance, this happened next door to AutoZone. I noticed then coolant was low, so filled it up. It's been drinking coolant very slowly, about 1/8 gallon every couple of weeks.
Local Ford dealership says they can't replace Head gasket because of "type of engine". However, I called several other dealerships in the Northwest who say it can be done for about $3,500 (feel like I am getting the run around from the local).
In addition, when Ford diagnosed, a broken sparkplug was found, but they didn't tell me until after driving away. I'm guessing this is the cause of rough idle when first starting engine.
Are you familiar with the history of the 2.0 Eco boost, and the numerous complaints to NHTSA? Can you comment on any of the aforementioned?

I'm not very well informed of the issues. I do know there have been issues with leaks and distortion concerns.

I'm not sure why the dealer would tell you the head gasket can't be replaced. I went through two manuals, and both provided directions and flat rate times for the repair. The labor is extensive, 14.5 hours. But that still wouldn't justify $3,500.00 to replace it. However, the shop rates where you are located may be different than here.
