I need to replace the upper trim of my dashboard which is also the panel that has the front windshield defrost vent because the slot that holds my auto headlight sensor broke. Can this panel be popped out or do I need to take apart the rest of the dashboard to remove it? Based on the assembly drawings in the owners manual It looks like it attached to the rest of the dashboard with a clip and may be able to be pried out. Thanks for your help.

not finding much here... the diagram shows no screws... just 5 clips.... about a 1ft apart.... you should beable to pry up on a corner, and work the rest of the clips up.... put tape over a flat blade screw driver before carefully prying up on it....

Its the top panel of the dashboard that runs along the windshield. It has a hole the auto headlight sensor and the vent for the front defroster. It looks like a new part would come with clips.

Good luck finding a replacement! It is a discontinued GM part. Why they would put a piece of that type of plastic on the dash behind a windshield in full sunlight (especially so here in Florida) is beyond me. They have all cracked or become so brittle that all you need to do is touch them and they disintegrate. I've been looking for a replacement for over a year. I have found no aftermarket suppliers and getting one from a salvage yard will get you one that will come apart as soon as it its touched.

Hmm that is a bummer, can you by chance make something that will work?

I don't know of anything other than an OEM replacement part that would work here. I guess I may just have to invest in a "dash carpet'" to cover the broken plastic on my dash. I really hate those things and think they look really tacky, but what can ya do? Leave a huge gaping hole inside the car behind the windshield visible to the world? Thanks, GM for discontinuing the Pontiac Motor Division and leaving your owners out to dry!

Yep I didn't like seeing them go. You try Ebay usually someone will make a kit

Hello,

I found the instructions on how to remove the cluster and bezel. Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.
