replacement of clutch

hello, I have the car listed above gxe and I'm noticing that my clutch is either slipping or I just need to replace it. I was hoping to just adjust it. so when I'm in third gear I can just floor it and my RPMs go all the way up and my cars not going anywhere. so I'm not a mechanic or have any skills in the trade but I thinking it's going to need to be serviced. any ideas? I'm just going to see if I can adjust it or how hard is it to replace the whole thing by myself? good idea? bad idea? please help.

Hi,

The higher the gear (for example 3rd, 4th, 5th) the more likely it will slip if it's bad. Don't laugh, but here is what I do: In a safe area away from things, stop the vehicle. Place it in 5th gear. Give it a little throttle and dump the clutch. If it stalls, it isn't the clutch. If the engine continues running with little vehicle movement, the clutch is bad. If it slips, don't continue running the throttle. Simply depress the clutch and shut it off.

As far as adjustment, this has a hydraulic clutch system and there is no adjustment. The clutch disc (at a minimum) will need to be replaced. I recommend replacing the clutch disc, pressure plate, release bearing, and having the flywheel resurfaced.

You will need to remove the transmission to replace the parts. I attached the directions for removal and replacement of the transmission first below.

The second set of directions are for component inspection and replacement once the transmission is out.
