replace CHT, code P1299- losing some coolant?

Hi,

Are you able to locate where the coolant is leaking? Is there any evidence of white smoke from the exhaust?

I know there is a freeze plug between the number 2 and 3 spark plug tubes that can leak. It's a 20 mm freeze plug between #2 and #3 spark plug tubes that fails and (allegedly not uncommon) coolant fills the spark plug well area and drains. Not easy to find.

Check to see if there is any evidence of coolant near those two spark plug tubes.

Also, I don't think the 1.6L uses a CHT. I believe it is a traditional engine coolant temp sensor. See pic below. The code you have is Cylinder Head Overtemperature Protection Active.

Hi,

I do not see a CHT in your pictures.

The pic (pic 2) is for a different size engine. I attached pics below.

Pic 1 shows there is presently an open recall on the door latch. Pic 2 shows a CHT present on the 2.0L, 2.5L, and 3.7L but not the 1.6L.

To find the 1.6, I have to go to engine coolant temperature sensor (ECT) in pic 3. Pic 4 shows its location.

No wonder I couldn't find it, it wasn't there.
What could be causing the P1299?
When I replaced ETC, with a new one, the electrical connection was full of coolant, so I sprayed out with CRC contact cleaner and reassembled. The wiring at the connector looked good. Should I disconnect and get reading wires and if so, what should they read?

Hi,

When I go to the manual, the P1299 only indicates the cylinder head overtemperature protection is active.

I have diagnostics, but the next question asks if any other codes are present. Have you checked it again recently?
